One of the most unique things about Konra is that there is a preexisting community that uses Konra and has been using it for years during extensive tests. While the community is small (a few dozen people), the potential for a wider use case through this cannot be underestimated.
As a small Micronation we used Konra as our currency, this means community members have been earning Konra and doing limited things with it for the last two years. This was merely a small test run before we put Konra on the blockchain.
The test was to how motivated community members would be to earn a merit based currency; even if rewards for doing so wouldn’t be immediately noticeable. During the test run we merely used it as an informal point merit system manually distributed. About 2 dozen people earned a total of almost 9000 Konra tokens for completing a variety of micronation / unity activities over the two years of time. Community members poured multiple hours of effort into earning the merits and there was no way to purchase or get gifted any of them.
Each Konra token took about 10 minutes worth of work or effort, or significant value created to earn it. For this they mainly received the respect of our community, a few social media shout outs and appointment to positions of authority within our community. The more Konra they had, the more they were respected within our community as everyone knew how hard it was to earn them and how much one had to care about the overall goals of our community to get merit.
The testing was an overwhelming success. Merit turned out to be much better motivator than money and community members find enough worth in their earned Konra that they seldom part with it — even now when offered the chances to turn it into other crypto currencies that are valued much more by the world than Konra which is brand new.
In fact a few asked me if they could eventually purchase more since the ability to earn it is still limited and the purchase price at around a dollar per Konra is cheaper than it was to earn them.
Now that Konra is on the blockchain community members will slowly get onboarded to the blockchain based resources to learn how to get, hold, trade and use their Konra. Even if it never takes off beyond our small community, it will be a huge success for us as we’ll keep using it internally as we choose.
This experiment shows me that in the future maybe we can use similar approaches on a larger scale. Doing so may help the world switch gears, from greed based economic systems to community building merit systems. If we boost up rewards that individuals can get for getting and holding Konra, such as potentially getting access to shared resources it’ll drive adoption even more. And if we can find a way to get it into impoverished communities around the world and bypass the banking and capitalistic system completely, then the sky is the limit.
Now that’s a use case if we can pull off to scale up, it would put Konra in a category by itself. It’s a big if, but it’s well worth putting the effort into making a reality. And…there are a few dozen people quite motivated to make this a reality….
….as that’s one sure way they can earn more Konra…..
